Transforming Stress into Creativity: My Beading Journey
My name is Carie McBain. My Indigenous name is Wapeg paqtesmesk pronounced (Wa beg buck day sim eesq). I am a proud Mi’kmaq who was born in the Community of Eel River Bar First Nation also known as Ugpiganjig.
My Community is located along the shores of the Atlantic Ocean in the Province of New Brunswick. As you all know the stressors of life can be alot. I wanted to find a way to channel relaxation, happiness and at the same time learn something about my culture. About 12 yrs ago I started beading. Learning to bead was a task of self teaching through patience and watching many online tutorials. One thing I can say is never give up. There may be days you think your work isn’t great. Instead focus on the positive. You are practicing your culture. Be proud.
During Covid it was hard to get supplies. I had an ah ha moment. I decided to open my own bead supply store. As wonderful as owning and operating a bead supply company it was also very time consuming. It left me little time to do what I truly love-beading my creations. I made the difficult decision that it was time to get back to where it all started- my love for beading, focusing on my health & family and sharing this passion with others. The friends and clients made it such a wonderful experience that I wanted to bring you all along in my next adventure. Not only will I be sewing & beading creations but I will be creating bead kits, providing workshops and tutorials. You never know what the future will hold. Always follow your heart.
